What Is the Social Media Character Counter?
Count characters for Twitter/X, Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, and other platforms. See exactly how close you are to each platform's character limit.
Why Use This Tool?
Every social platform has different character limits — and they count characters differently. This tool shows your text length against each platform's constraints simultaneously.
How to Use This Social Character Counter
- Paste or type your content — Enter the text you plan to post on social media into the input field.
- Select your platform — Choose your target platform — Twitter/X, LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, or TikTok — to see platform-specific character limits.
- Watch the live count — The counter updates in real time, showing remaining characters, a progress bar, and a warning as you approach the limit.
- Optimize your message — Trim your text to fit within the limit while keeping your message clear. The character count helps you identify where to cut.
Tips and Best Practices
- → Front-load your message. On every platform, the first 1–2 lines are visible before 'Read more' or truncation. Put your hook and key information first.
- → URLs count differently per platform. Twitter/X counts all URLs as 23 characters regardless of actual length. LinkedIn and Facebook use the full URL length. Use URL shorteners when character count matters.
- → Emoji count as 2 characters on Twitter/X. Most emoji are encoded as 2 UTF-16 characters. This means a tweet with emoji has less text space than you might expect.
- → Line breaks count as characters. Every line break is 1 character. Heavily formatted posts with lots of spacing consume more of your character budget than you'd think.
