Signature Generator

How to use it

  1. Draw: sign on the white pad with a mouse, finger or stylus. Writing slowly gives a thicker line, quick flicks a thinner one, like a real pen; a stylus that reports pressure uses that instead. Undo stroke removes the last stroke.
  2. Type: enter your name and pick one of six handwriting fonts. The slant slider leans the letters.
  3. Choose black or one of two blue inks (blue makes a signed copy easy to tell from a photocopy), or any colour.
  4. Download PNG gives a transparent image you can place over a signature line in Word, Google Docs, Pages or a PDF editor. JPG has a white background for forms that refuse transparency; SVG (drawn signatures) scales to any size. Copy image puts the PNG on the clipboard to paste directly.

What the files contain

Every export is cropped to the ink with a small margin, and saved at four times the size you see on screen so it does not blur when a document enlarges it. In our test a stroke 267 pixels wide on screen became a 1068 × 276 pixel PNG with exactly 48 transparent pixels on each side, and the ink kept its colour (#1a3a8f in, rgb(26, 58, 143) out).

The six typed styles (Sacramento, Great Vibes, Allura, Dancing Script, Homemade Apple and Mr Dafoe) are open-licensed fonts served from this site, so typing your name does not send it to a font service. Nothing you draw or type leaves your browser.

Is a signature image legally binding?

In the United States, the federal ESIGN Act says a signature, contract or record may not be denied legal effect just because it is electronic (15 U.S.C. §7001). It has exceptions listed in §7003, among them wills and testamentary trusts, most family-law matters such as adoption and divorce, court orders, and certain notices such as eviction, foreclosure or cancellation of utility service or health insurance. Most other countries have similar laws with their own rules.

What the law accepts and what a particular company accepts are different questions: a landlord, bank or agency can still ask for an ink signature or for a specific e-signing service. And a pasted image on its own does not prove who put it there, which is why e-signature services also record names, emails and times. For anything important, ask what the recipient needs. This is general information, not legal advice.

What we tested

On October 15, 2026, in Chromium 141.0.7390.37:

CheckResult
CroppingThe page’s ink-box finder matched an independent NumPy version on 200 random images
Drawn signature, PNG1068 × 276 px, transparent outside the ink, 48 px margin on all four sides, colour kept
JPG and SVGJPG background pure white; SVG drew the signature at the same size in the browser
Pen feelAverage width on a fast stroke 2.1 px against 3.7 px on a slow one (3 px pen setting); stylus pressure raises it
Typed signatureAll 6 fonts loaded from this site (6 font files), each gave a different image, no requests to any font service
Empty padDownload asks you to draw first instead of saving a blank file
PhoneFinger signature on a 390 px screen drawn and exported; no sideways scrolling; 0 page errors

Tips

  1. Sign a little larger than you would on paper; small, shaky strokes are harder to read when shrunk.
  2. Drawing with a finger on a phone usually looks more like a real signature than a mouse does.
  3. In Word or Google Docs, set the image to “In front of text” to place it on the signature line, then shrink it to fit.
  4. Keep the file private. Do not post your signature image online.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make a transparent signature?+
Draw or type it here and download the PNG. Everything outside the ink is transparent, so it sits cleanly on a signature line in Word, Google Docs or a PDF.
Can I type my signature instead of drawing it?+
Yes. Switch to Type, enter your name and pick one of six handwriting fonts. The fonts are served from this site, so your name is not sent anywhere.
What size is the image?+
It is cropped to your signature with a small margin and saved at four times the on-screen size, typically around 1,000 pixels wide, so it stays sharp when enlarged.
Is an electronic signature legally valid?+
In the US, the ESIGN Act gives electronic signatures legal effect for most transactions, with exceptions such as wills, most family-law matters and certain notices (15 U.S.C. 7001 and 7003). Whether a specific recipient accepts an image is up to them. This is not legal advice.
Is my signature uploaded?+
No. It is drawn and saved entirely in your browser, and nothing is stored after you leave the page.
Can I sign a PDF directly?+
Yes, with our PDF Signer, which places a drawn or typed signature onto the pages of a PDF.
