Final Grade Calculator

How to use it

  1. Enter your current grade, or switch to categories and enter each category’s weight and score (leave ungraded ones empty).
  2. Enter the final exam’s weight from the syllabus and the course grade you want, or tap a letter grade.
  3. Read the score you need, and the what-if table for final scores from 50% to 100%.

The formula

Your course grade is your current grade times the share of the course that is already graded, plus your final score times the final’s share: course = current × (1 − w) + final × w. Solving for the final gives the score you need: (target − current × (1 − w)) / w. If that is above 100%, the tool shows the best grade you can still reach; if it is zero or below, you already have the target.

What we tested

On October 14, 2026 we checked the page’s own functions against hand calculations and used the page in Chromium: the default case read "You need 94% on the final.", a target of 90 was reported as out of reach with 89.5% the best possible, the category mode worked out 85.73% from four categories and the score needed for 88%, and the page fitted a 390 px phone screen with no errors.

CheckResult

92% now, final 20%, want 90 -> 82pass
70% now, final 40%, want 80 -> 95pass
course grade with 100 on the finalpass
round trip: course(needed) = targetpass
categories: graded weight 75pass

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate what I need on my final?+
Needed final score = (grade you want - current grade x (1 - final weight)) / final weight, with the weight as a fraction. With 86% now, a final worth 25% and a target of 88%: (88 - 86 x 0.75) / 0.25 = 94%.
What if the answer is over 100%?+
Then the target cannot be reached through the final alone. The calculator shows the highest course grade you can still get, which is your grade with 100% on the final.
How do I find my current grade from categories?+
Multiply each graded category's score by its weight, add them up, and divide by the total weight of the categories graded so far. Homework 95% (20%), quizzes 82% (15%), midterm 78% (25%) and a project 90% (15%) give 6,430 / 75 = 85.7%.
Why does the final's weight matter so much?+
The smaller the final's share, the less it can move your grade: with 92% now and a 20% final, keeping a 90 needs only 82% on the final, while with 70% now and a 40% final, reaching 80 needs 95%.
Does it handle curves, dropped grades or replacement policies?+
No; it assumes the final is a fixed share of the grade and everything else is already counted. Check your syllabus if your teacher curves, drops the lowest score, or lets the final replace other grades.
