How to make flashcards
- Type or paste your cards, one per line:
osmosis - movement of water across a membrane. Up to 200 cards. - Study: press Space (or tap) to flip, then Got it or Still learning. The counter shows how many you know and how many are left.
- Print: pick 8, 6 or 4 cards per page and print double-sided, flip on long edge, at 100% scale. Cut along the dashed lines.
How the study pile works
Cards you get wrong come back three cards later rather than at the end of the deck or immediately. Coming back soon gives another try while the answer is fresh; not coming back immediately means you have to recall it rather than just repeat what you saw a second ago. The round ends when every card has been answered Got it at least once.
We checked the pile with the page’s own functions on October 14, 2026: 2000 simulated rounds of 20 cards, with each answer a Got it 60% of the time. Every round ended with all 20 cards known exactly once, a missed card never came straight back while other cards were waiting, and an average round needed 13.2 repeats.
Why the back pages are mirrored
When a sheet is printed on both sides and flipped on its long edge, the left column of the front sits behind the right column of the back. So the tool lays out each back page with its columns swapped. In Chromium we printed 20 cards at 8 per page to PDF (6 pages) and read the position of every term and every definition: each definition sat on the page after its term, in the same row, in the mirrored column, 20 of 20. Settings and buttons do not print.
Tips
Keep one idea per card and keep definitions short enough to say aloud; a card you cannot answer in a few seconds is two cards. Study in both directions for vocabulary. For a class activity with the same word list, the Crossword Maker takes terms and clues in the same format.
