How to use it
- Pick a tool from the top bar: Pen and Highlighter for freehand, Box, Ellipse, Line and Arrow for shapes, Text to type anywhere, Sticky note for a coloured note. Choose a colour and size first.
- Move around the board by scrolling, dragging with the Hand tool or holding Space, and zoom with Ctrl (or ⌘) and the scroll wheel, a trackpad pinch, or two fingers on a phone or tablet. Fit brings everything into view.
- Select lets you drag any item; Delete removes it. The Eraser removes whole items it touches. Undo and Redo go back and forward up to 100 steps.
- Export with Download PNG (white background, twice the on-screen sharpness) or SVG (scalable, opens in design apps), or Save board file to keep an editable copy you can open again later or on another device.
Where your board is kept
Everything stays in your browser. The board is saved to this browser’s local storage a quarter of a second after each change, so a reload or a closed tab brings it back. It is not sent anywhere and there is no account, which also means it is only on this device: to move a board to another computer or share it, save a board file and open it there, or send the PNG.
How it draws
The board is vector drawing (SVG) on an endless plane: every stroke and shape is stored as coordinates, not pixels, so zooming in keeps lines sharp and the export is exactly what you drew at any size. Pen strokes collect every pointer position the browser reports, including the extra in-between points it records on fast movements, and are smoothed with curves through the midpoints of those positions. Zooming keeps the point under your cursor or between your fingers fixed, which is what makes it feel steady.
What we tested
On October 15, 2026, in Chromium 141.0.7390.37:
| Check | Result |
|---|---|
| Drawing | pen stroke, box, Shift-drawn circle (width = height), arrow, text and a sticky note all created and saved |
| Select and move | box dragged by 50 × 40 px moved by exactly 50 × 40 board units at 100% zoom |
| Eraser, undo, redo | items 6 → 5 → 6 → 5 → 6 (erase, undo, redo, undo) |
| Zoom maths | 2,000 random zooms: the point under the cursor stayed put to within 2e-12 units |
| Eraser hit test | 3,000 random strokes and points: same answer as a brute-force distance check every time |
| PNG export | 1804 × 628 px = (drawing + margin) × 2, white background, the red stroke present |
| SVG and board file | SVG parses with both texts; a saved board file opened into a cleared board gave back identical items; a reload kept them |
| Large board | 2,000 strokes loaded in 399 ms and redrew in 85 ms |
| Phone (390 px, touch) | one finger drew a stroke; a two-finger pinch zoomed 100% → 300% without drawing anything; no sideways scrolling; 0 errors |
Testing caught one bug before release: clicking with the Text tool opened the text box and the same click then took the focus away, so the text vanished. The board now cancels that default click behaviour.
Tips
- Use sticky notes for brainstorming: drop several, then drag them into groups with Select.
- Arrows plus boxes make a quick diagram; for a structured flowchart or mind map, our Flowchart Maker and Mind Map Builder lay things out for you.
- Save a board file before clearing your browser data; local storage is removed with it.
- For a presentation, press Fit and then Download PNG for a clean image of the whole board.
